Group Discussion (GD) round for MBA admission in top MBA colleges starts in February and in many MBA colleges, continues till April/May 2020 for example FMS Delhi, baby IIMs and others. However, in the final selection round for MBA 2020-22 batch, the disruptions due to global spread of Corona virus, Lock down in India since March 2020, has halted the process in many B-schools. The delay in the dates for conduct of GD/PI and subsequently change of GD/PI mode from in-person to Online has given an opportunity to the candidates to prepare more for GD round and focus on variety of GD topics including – ‘Corona Virus and its impact on India’; ‘Economic slow down projections – Fact or Myth’; ‘Unlocking of Indian Economy – Implications & Growth prospects’ among other current ones.
Many MBA colleges could not complete their GD process in their final selection round due to Covid-19 Lockdown which started on March 23 and is still continuing with the norms of social distancing, No group gathering etc. After the four phases of strict lock down till May 31, Unlock phases of Covid-19 have started but the norms have to be strictly followed. With most industries and offices shut, very low GDP growth of the global economy is predicted. The IIMs, XLRI Jamshedpur, MDI Gurgaon and other top MBA colleges who conduct GD round have placed most current GD topics in their in-person or online PI round on various economic, business and social issues including the Global projections on Economic Growth, Unlocking of Economy, Corona Virus, recently passed CAA, 10% Reservation Act, Impact of Agriculture Loan Waivers, IIM Act 2017, Impact of Demonetisation, GST, Bank Merger, Bank Recapitalization, Merger of General and Railway Budget, and certain abstract topics which are more relevant to present socio-economic scenario. FMS Delhi which re-introduced GD round for admission to MBA 2020-22 batch conducted online PI, Extempore round without GD in April 2020. MDI Gurgaon concluded its GD round in the month of March 2020 and the admission process was completed before lockdown.
